[Twickenham] Beginners' course this week

The next beginners' course at the club starts this week on Thursday at the usual time and place, so if you were looking for a good time to come along and start, this week is ideal. All you'll need is loose comfy clothes and a water bottle.

As summer comes to a close we have one remaining practice which will be located in a non-standard rooms over September - although still at the same times as usual:

[Cardiff] Next beginners' course starts soon

The next beginners' course for Cardiff KDS starts next month on Saturday 11th September during our usual club practice times - 10:00am - 12:00noon.

Anyone wishing to see what the KDS has to offer would be welcome to attend.

[Twickenham] Training is back on for good

Now that summer school is out of the way, training is back on (starting tonight) with no more breaks in the pipeline until Christmas.

[Newport] Beginners' course starts 13th September

The Newport club will be starting a beginners' course at the new club venue at Rougemont School starting September 2010

Summer School 2010 has come to a successful close, and was well attended with people travelling to Canterbury from across the UK, Europe and further afield.

[London] London course details available

After the rigours of Summer School, the next UK national KDS course is to be hosted by the London club on the Brunel university campus in Uxbridge on the weekend of the 25th/26th of September.

[Leeds] Leeds club coming soon

Leeds KDS is in the process of being established by Melanie Bowden (formally at Cardiff KDS) and Peter Rogberg (previously at Oxford KDS) who have both recently moved to the area.

New article: Get Moving!

In the third, and final, of a collection of new articles for the site we present an article originally published within Shotokan Karate Magazine (January 2005) by Jonathan de' Claire (4th Dan).

To help with the development of movement within his students Harada Sensei changed his approach to all aspects of karate.

New article: The Concept of Kiai

In the second of a collection of new articles for the site, Master Mitsusuke Harada details his thoughts on the concept of kiai and the relevance to karate practice today.

Europeans tend to be rather keen on what they call rational explanations and complain that some Japanese concepts are obscure and not easy to understand. In that respect, one of the most frequently quoted is that of KIAI, and I am often asked to give my opinion on the matter.

[London] Beginners' course starts soon

The London club's next beginners' course will begin this coming Tuesday 3rd August. If you've been thinking about sampling what the KDS has to offer then this might be the perfect time to find out!

As per usual, the three month course will take place on Tuesday evenings through to the end of October, and will cost only �45.

New Harada Sensei MBE interview

As the first of a collection of upcoming new articles for the site we present an interview of Harada Sensei, the founder of the KDS, shortly after he received his MBE for services to karate.

I never dreamed this would be possible. I think I am the first Japanese Martial Arts Master to be awarded the MBE. I am also very happy because I did it whilst following my own way.

Jerusalem course this coming weekend

Gladys and Bernard from the French arm of the KDS will in Israel this coming weekend for a course being run in Jerusalem from Sunday 25th - Monday 26th.

[South Glamorgan] A story written by one of the novices at the club

On the South Glamorgan club site we have inclued a story written by one of the novices at the club - Dafydd James who has been with us for 6 months.

[London] July studio changes

Whilst normal club sessions will be continuing as per normal throughout the summer at the Place, there will, unfortunately, be some room changes. For July the non-standard room locations will be:

[London] Grading results: June 2010

Congratulations to the following, who last night passed the grading held under the watchful eye of London's own senior instructor, Nic Stewart (3rd dan):

Toulouse course confirmed for October

As can be seen in the now updated course calendar there will be an additional KDS course to be held this year in October at Toulouse, France.
